Hi, I’m kevin haney.
I’m a retired guy living with his wife and our two cats in a log cabin at the foot of the Catoctin Mountains in Maryland. I’m hopelessly addicted to fly fishing for trout, so much so that I’ve fished for nothing else the last couple of years. I’m extremely lucky to live within a few minutes of a number of beautiful mountain trout streams, including Big Hunting Creek, Fishing Creek, and Owens Creek.
I only use antique gear. If you want to know why, you can read my explanation here. I like to introduce those anglers caught up with the modern technology of fly fishing to the older stuff, which catches just as many fish as modern equipment, besides being a whole lot more fun to use!
I love to collect and sell antique gear and write stories about it and take pictures of it almost as much as I like to fish. I’m a member of the Potomac Valley Fly Fishers, the Conewago Fly Fishers, and the local chapter of Trout Unlimited. I’m also the Coordinator of the Big Hunting Creek Working Group, an interorganizational group devoted to improving stream conditions and the trout fishery in the central Maryland area. One great thing about fly fishing that I’ve discovered is that the folks you meet while doing it are almost invariably nice!
